Mille Lacs Fatherhood Activity Nights

One of the challenges in education is making sure that families are supportive and promoting education at home. MRC members from Mille Lacs Early Education program on the Mille Lacs Reservation are taking the challenge head on with Fatherhood Activity Nights. The Mille Lacs program serves 53 students, many of whom participate in the Activity Nights.

These events are two hours of dinner and education activities. There is normally at least one literacy activity, but the MRC members try to include literacy into all of the activities. The goal of the Fatherhood Activity Nights is to get fathers involved in education and to get them comfortable in a school environment. Evidently, they're doing a great job of meeting that goal - the events are a big success and are continously growing. As many as 14 families show up for a single night's event. Great job! Thanks to Ryan Gress and the rest of the Mille Lacs group!

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun! Great job providing families with valuable education in a fun setting! It's such an important connection for dads to see the value of their role as education mentors for their young kids.

    Keep it up!
