The Sounds of Service
I like music. I like books. I like helping others. I also like it when I find something that has to do with all three at once. This is somewhat old news now, but Filter Magazine and Urban Outfitters put out a CD with a compilation of remixes and unreleased music by some really great artists that will benefit 826 National. According to the blurb on the back of the case, 100% of the proceeds go to 826 for their workshops, tutoring services, field trips and publishing projects for inner-city students in cities they serve. Unfortunately, there isn't an 826 Twin Cities, but there are still lots of kids in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Ann Arbor and Boston that can benefit from the $15 you'd spend on music from Phoenix, The Ting Tings and The Cold War Kids. You can get the CD from Urban Outfitters and check out some of the great work that 826 National does on their website.
