The Minnesota Department of Education reported recently that 13 percent of Minnesota high school seniors still need to pass the standard reading test. According to the Star Tribune, this number goes up to 28 percent in Minneapolis alone, and 20% in St. Paul.
What do you think? Should schools deny students their diplomas because they didn't score high enough on one standardized test? Or should schools stick to their guns and see holding students back as a favor to themselves, until they prove they can read?
