Staff Profile: Kelly LaCore

The Minnesota Reading Corps is going through some exciting changes right now as it's training in new members and re-locating to a new education umbrella, the Minnesota Education Corps. To help keep us sane during these busy weeks, the MRC has hired some more staff. So let's meet Kelly LaCore, the newest of several staff members.

Kelly is the Program Director of the Bloomington, Elk River and Cambridge-Isanti regions and also works with several Pre-K sites in St. Paul. Before she joined the MRC team, she was working in the service-learning department at Normandale Community College in Bloomington. "I set up service-learning projects for students and also coordinated a part-time AmeriCorps program on campus," Kelly said of her former job.

When she joined the MRC family it happened to be a time of mayhem, but thankfully, she didn't think twice about her decision of joining the team. "I understand I have started in the midst of the busiest weeks of the year and it's great to see everyone in action," said Kelly. "I learn best by doing, so I'm learning a lot (and fast!) as we make our way through these weeks."

Kelly also joined in time to witness the first ever Minnesota Reading Corps' Summer Institute. Institute is the training period for new members that is held at the St. Paul's River Centre. "I was completely in awe watching Summer Institute happen!"

As the upcoming school year is around the corner, Kelly is looking forward to be a support person for all of the Members. "I want them to feel supported and to be excited about the work that they are doing in the schools, because it is incredible!"
