The Huffington Post isn't normally my go-to news site, but there just happen to be a couple articles on there about reading that I enjoy. You may have heard these messages before, but I hope there is something new from these. If nothing else, these are good reminders of the personal benefits of literacy tutoring.
The first is by Jon Scieszka, who you might know from The Stinky Cheese Man or The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs. Both of which I read as a kid. He was the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature this past year and shares some of his experiences as well as advice on how to be a successful reading role model for young children. He also is the founder of a literacy organization for boys called Guys Read.
The second is a pretty inspiring piece by Pam Allyn, the executive director of LitLife. It's about the power of stories and how that can impact a child. Pam's words are much better than mine so I'll just leave it at "good stuff" and provide the link.
